About Us

David Mark Lopez was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee and grew up in the Kansas City area. He is a graduate of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and obtained his Juris Doctor Degree from the University of Miami School of Law in 1988. He began his practice with the firm of Blanchard, Merriam, Cuterari & Adel, P.A. in 1988 in the areas of Workers’ Compensation and Personal Injury. In 1990, David moved his practice to the firm of Sims & DiLorenzo, P.A. and expanded his practice to include Social Security Disability law. He continued to excel and by 1994, David was made managing partner of Sims & Lopez, PA. After serving as managing partner for five years, David decided to open the firm of Lopez & Lopez, P.A. with his brother Andrew in 1999. His success continues today in providing representation to injured claimants.

Through the years, David has enjoyed many achievements including participating as a lecturer on Workers’ Compensation at Bridge-The-Gap Seminars from 1994-1998. He has personally handled over 1000 Workers’ Compensation cases and has tried over 3000 Social Security cases. He has been retained as an Expert Witness in Social Security/Workers’ Compensation matters over 500 times. David also is the proud publisher of the “Idiot’s Guide to Social Security”, a basic Social Security guide for Workers’ Compensation Practitioners. He also licensed in the US District Court – Middle District of Florida.

In his spare time, David enjoys writing and illustrating his published children’s book series “Maddie’s Magic Markers”. Over the last several years, he has had the privilege of sharing his books with over 200 schools, libraries and bookstores in Florida, Tennessee, Georgia, Nebraska and Massachusetts. He loves inspiring children to read and pursue their own talents and dreams in life.


Elizabeth Stakenborg grew up in a small farming community in Central Illinois. Ms. Stakenborg received her undergraduate degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She attended law school at the University of Florida and graduated with honors.

Ms. Stakenborg has been an attorney in Ocala since 1994.  During that time she has represented thousands of workers in their claims for disability. She started out representing worker’s compensation clients who had been denied their benefits. She realized her worker’s compensation clients needed assistance with their social security claims and changed her focus.

Ms. Stakenborg currently practices in the area of Social Security Disability and Supplemental Security Income. She enjoys working with her clients because she knows that winning a Social Security Disability claim also means her clients are able to obtain health care. She also represents claimants in Social Security disability claims before the Appeals Council and in the United States District Court. Ms. Stakenborg is dedicated to representing those who are overwhelmed by the system.
