About Us

David Mark Lopez was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee and grew up in the Kansas City area. He is a graduate of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and obtained his Juris Doctor Degree from the University of Miami School of Law in 1988. He began his practice with the firm of Blanchard, Merriam, Cuterari & Adel, P.A. in 1988 in the areas of Workers’ Compensation and Personal Injury. In 1990, David moved his practice to the firm of Sims & DiLorenzo, P.A. and expanded his practice to include Social Security Disability law. He continued to excel and by 1994, David was made managing partner of Sims & Lopez, PA. After serving as managing partner for five years, David decided to open the firm of Lopez & Lopez, P.A. with his brother Andrew in 1999. His success continues today in providing representation to injured claimants.

Through the years, David has enjoyed many achievements including participating as a lecturer on Workers’ Compensation at Bridge-The-Gap Seminars from 1994-1998. He has personally handled over 1000 Workers’ Compensation cases and has tried over 3000 Social Security cases. He has been retained as an Expert Witness in Social Security/Workers’ Compensation matters over 500 times. David also is the proud publisher of the “Idiot’s Guide to Social Security”, a basic Social Security guide for Workers’ Compensation Practitioners. He also licensed in the US District Court – Middle District of Florida.

In his spare time, David enjoys writing and illustrating his published children’s book series “Maddie’s Magic Markers”. Over the last several years, he has had the privilege of sharing his books with over 200 schools, libraries and bookstores in Florida, Tennessee, Georgia, Nebraska and Massachusetts. He loves inspiring children to read and pursue their own talents and dreams in life.

 


 

Sophia Gribbin is a Florida native; born in Palatka, Florida. In 1996, Sophia graduated from the Paralegal Studies program at the College of Central Florida with honors and member of Phi Theta Kappa honor society. After graduation, she began her career at the law firm formerly known as Sims, DiLorenzo, and Lopez as a legal assistant in their Social Security Disability department, working directly under Attorney David Lopez. In 1998 she became a Certified Legal Assistant through the National Association of Legal Assistants (NALA) and within three years of graduating from the Paralegal Program, she expanded her career at the same firm within their Workers’ Compensation department. In 2000, she moved to Jacksonville, Florida where she furthered her experience by working as a legal assistant handling Social Security Disability claims, Workers’ Compensation cases, and Personal Injury litigation.

Since moving back to Ocala in 2002, Sophia has been an intricate part of our firm working as a legal assistant handling Social Security Disability claims, while also occasionally helping with our Workers’ Compensation and Personal Injury cases. In October 2006, she was promoted to Office Manager which has included managing all three departments of our firm (Social Security Disability, Workers’ Compensation, and Personal Injury) as well as other various managerial duties. In 2010 Sophia’s career launched to a new level as she was promoted to a Non-Attorney Social Security Claimant’s Representative, successfully representing our clients at Social Security hearings.

Sophia continues to devote her career to assisting Social Security Disability claimants, while also assisting in our Workers’ Compensation and Personal Injury practice. She is a member of the Paralegal Studies Committee at the College of Central Florida, where she continues to advocate and help students attain their goal of working in the legal field.
